Theo Ubique Theatre Co. (in association with Michael James) presents the World Premiere of Jacques Brel's Lonesome Losers of the Night. Following the trials of two sailors at port in a bar in Amsterdam, we witness how relationships bloom and wilt through the magical lyricism of Jacques Brel. A new musical of love, loss, and hope, Jacques Brel's Lonesome Losers of the Night promises to be a spectacular new work.

CHICAGO TRIBUNE - "HOTTEST TICKET IN TOWN"
"...it makes you experience Brel's huge catalog of music in an entirely new way...not only do the four singers in Theo Ubique's 90-minute revue have powerful, sophisticated and appealing voices, they blend together in the most interesting narrative fashion. Rarely does a revue achieve such layers of irony and such haunting emotional stakes. You can keep your Paris. I'd rather have my Brel lost and lonely in Rogers Park."

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES - "'Lonesome Losers' paints riveting portrait thanks to standout cast"
"...the four singers and pianist on hand [display] an emotional power and interpretive finesse that will keep you riveted for 90 searing minutes. In addition to the exceptional performances, what makes the crucial difference here is Arnold Johnston's superb translations."
"Lamb is the classic seductress."
"Damiano is making a sensational Chicago debut here. A genuine find...brings a masculine, gently cynical but always passionate edge to his portrayal"
"Martin has a wonderfully expressive voice. Pale, good-looking, sensitive and bitter, he does a knockout job with 'My Childhood.'"
"Trager nails 'The Song of Jacky' and adds his vibrant voice to the group, with musical director Joshua Stephen Kartes drawing out all the sharp, despairing, self-mocking poetry in Brel's music."
"Sensational...a genuine hit."

CHICAGO READER
"...Brel's rousing drinking songs and aching ballads suit the scruffy intimacy of Theo Ubique Theatre Company's cafe venue, and the fine young cast -- Chris Damiano, Jenny Lamb, Eric Martin, and Jeremy Trager -- deliver honest, emotionally detailed readings of Johnston's translations, which capture the potent imagery and dark humor of Brel's lyrics."

Centerstage Chicago
"...Fred Anzevino has orchestrated another dazzling little jewel of a show...a show brimming with musical and dramatic artistry and featuring expert timing, subtle dramatic nuance and, I might add, precise diction. Simply but effectively staged, lit and costumed, this well-acted and emotionally touching musical feast is everything you could ask for on a hot summer evening."
"From the swelling piano overture to the show's jazzy title song that bookends the piece, you're likely to become a fan of both Jacques Brel and this wonderful theater company."

ChicagoCritic - "Fascinating evening of heart-wrenching Jacques Brel tunes expertly sung now featured at No Exit Cafe"
"...'Jacques Brel's Lonesome Losers of the Night' is an emotionally wrenching and marvelously sung revue of seriously sad songs that reflect the feeling of the dregs of society and war-weary soldiers. There are truthful songs that capture the tone and sentiment of lost souls everywhere. The outstanding voices of this fabulous cast propel the emotions deftly. Not only can these performers sing, but they capture the spirit and meaning of the lyrics nicely."
"...You'd be hard pressed to find a finer sung show than this one...you will not find a finer evening of entertainment."
"An amazing achievement. If you've never heard Jacques Brel's music before, you're in for a special treat. Trager, Lamb, Martin, Damiano and Kartes deliver a gem of a show."
